Our Founder and MD Mr. Subramanian started an online petition urging the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to respect and uphold the integrity of the judicial process and ensure that its actions do not undermine the independence of state high courts.
On Friday, December 13th, the Supreme Court refused to transfer 24 writ petitions filed in various High Courts by Amazon and Flipkart-associated sellers against the Competition Commission of India's probe into alleged anti-competitive practices to a division bench of the Karnataka High Court.
The Court was hearing the plea filed by the CCI seeking the transfer of the writ petitions filed in various High Courts challenging the CCI's probe into alleged anti-competitive practices to the Supreme Court. During the hearing, Justice Oka questioned why the matter should be brought to the Supreme Court, suggesting instead that it be consolidated in one High Court.
Justice Oka said that CCI could not be given special treatment by directing the division bench's petitions to be heard directly instead of first being decided by a single judge as per the Karnataka High Court Rules.
